About the author:

This is the blog kingdom of Andrew Fern from the Gold Coast in Australia. The content here is inspired by the people I have met in the past 6 years working around early stage (startup) companies and inventors. I’d previously only done some product development. I liked it when I could get investment capital for a project with a business case. I am passionate about early stage companies and commercialisation of new technologies. I am also a realist which seems to be somewhat rare around the space.
I should disclose that I am an investor of cash, time, blood and sweat in www.scarpar.com and current (part time) CEO. A six year (ad) venture to date … and still going. It has been the source a lot of my first hand education. There have been some other false starts where I thought I wanted to start a company but I was acting more like an inventor … and I do not mean that as a compliment to myself.
I work here doing a whole lot of different things including delivering realistic advice to entrepreneurs and inventors who think that they are entrepreneurs each year. This keeps his my 4 children fed and me off the streets. This site is in no way endorsed by the Australian Institute for Commercialisation.
The news well that ideas can’t be ‘sold’, and that nobody else will do the hard yards of taking their idea to market rarely goes down too well. Mostly, the news that the only people who will be receiving a sack of cash during the process are their patent lawyers and their engineers who are both on hourly rate seems to be the hardest to take.
The intent of this site is (mostly) a humorous spin on a serious problem … acute and widespread delusion. An advanced apology is issued to everyone who is offended … if you think a comic, comment or post is about you (or was inspired by you) it’s not … it’s somebody else. That clears that up.
